The Weeknd's concert special was AMAZING visually and sonically. I'm glad I watched it on the big TV on the sound bar we have. I also recently watched the Arctic Monkeys concert special (have had the live album in rotation for months) and it sounded/looked great too. I think it would be cool if rappers like Tyler The Creator or Curren$y who often do special arrangements for shows would do live albums. I'm still holding on for a live Tame Impala album especially since two albums (and several special arrangements) have been released since the last one
Oh interesting! Hot take here: I actually wish * less * artists released live albums. I generally think production and quality is lower on those, even to this day, and I think it removes (for me) the personal nature of actually attending a show, living in the moment, and being part of a small part of the fanbase that took time out of their life to be there with that band/group/singer.
fair counterpoint! i think it does offer opportunity for those that couldn't make it but to your point, i def agree there's a level of mindfulness / being present that can be removed
also i was never gonna see The Weeknd live (because i just don't like arena shows) so at least i got a small peak into the show lmao
childish gambino at rock the bells 2011. live band and you could tell he cared about the show he was putting on.
RIP Rock The Bells and Paid Dues 😮💨

damn, i need to peep that concert special 👀 -- another medium i completely forgot when it comes to live albums
and agreed on those artists to release some live stuff, their live music would translate well to a recorded medium 🙏
