reissue: vol. 21 - fried chicken in bed
going back in time revisiting one of Run It Back's first ever guest features 🥲
every now and then i’ll reissue an old volume of Run It Back to go down memory lane. you’ll see how the format of the newsletter and my voice have evolved over time
today we’re revisiting an early volume by one of my closest friends: Josh Yos (founder of Village Resting and 1/2 of Tiny’s). sources say he’s going to be doing another one v soon 👀
i can wax poetic about how much i love and appreciate him, but i’ll let past Claudio do the talking
if you’re lucky enough to cross paths with him, you’ll know why he’s 1 of 1 😌
p.s. - despite the reissue, there’ll be *fresh* memes that brought me joy this past week :)
memes of the week 🤠
Big Therapy™️ and Big Anxiety™️ need each other to stay in power
see what i mean?

why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?
hahahahaha
(Vol. 21) Editor’s Note: Josh has always been a huge influence on my taste in music. Me and my high school ex would fight about sharing music with him because we wanted to show him that we listen to dope music too. Today’s diverse selection only reinforces that level of influence. I absolutely LOVE this playlist.

During this year of eternal dread, loss, and despair, I’ve been on a constant quest of finding comfort. I started eating fried chicken in my bed. I’ll end up on weird YouTube videos with less than 60 views. I’ll find myself working on my truck, even though I’ve never worked on my truck before. Nothing was working. I just couldn’t find it.
I realized I was trying too hard. My 7th grade history teacher (turned lifelong mentor and friend) would say to me, “Josh, always play the hits.” Go with what you know because no one knows you better than yourself.
In the same way people start new shows but end up rewatching The Office for the 14th time, I run back to the same handful of songs to soothe me. I don’t want to sift through the Frank Ocean clones or learn about new pop princesses.
Sometimes, I need to listen to the equivalent of chicken tendies on a taqueria menu. I need the reliability that Jordan Brand will release the same shoe 5 times in 7 years. I NEED THE COSTCO HOT DOG AND DRINK THAT IS PROMISED TO BE $1.50 EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Good comfort is something you can count on. When in doubt, always play the hits.

this week’s music ⤵️
Hypernight
Title Fight
Released: 2015
Spent my life
Trying to make everything right
Hypernight
Widened sight to make me realize
I’m gonna try super hard to not turn this into a Title Fight slurp fest but Title Fight is responsible for how I look. They have a fan-base that ranges from the lacrosse shorts jock-bro (me), to the 990’s and Arc’teryx accessories (me again), to Rick Owens/streetwear urban ninja types (not me, but almost). It brings me comfort to know that despite the style choice, we all copped the Anxiety x Depression collab.
They’ve changed so much between their 4 major releases in 6 years. It went from angsty hardcore to Slowdive-y shoegaze. They are proof that yes, you are allowed to be less anxious but more depressed.
Joker
Young Nudy & Pi’erre Bourne
Released: 2019
Not my favorite Nudy song but I just love how he loses his train of thought and can’t finish a bar so he says, “ion even know, ION EVEN KNOW, I DON’T EVEN KNOOO,” but it’s part of the hook so it shows up in the song 3 more times.
I don't even know, I don't even know
I don't even know, I don't even know
It’s not a mistake if you make it look intentional. ::points to head like Melo::
Age of Consent
New Order
Released: 1983
And I'm not the kind that likes to tell you
Just what I want to do
I'm not the kind that needs to tell you
Just what you want me to
Not even a peer reviewed article by Albert Einstein, Bill Gates (the Windows version not the Bill and Melinda version), and Jordan Peele can tell me that this is not the best song ever created.
If I had the chance to make a teen comedy-drama, I would have this be the opening track where the main character is getting their day started. It’s a sweet balance of fuck you and optimism to get you through your day. The Yerba Mate of songs.
Take It to the Limit
Eagles
Released: 1975
You know I've always been a dreamer
(Spent my life running 'round)
And it's so hard to change
(Can't seem to settle down)
But the dreams I've seen lately
Keep on turning out and burning out
And turning out the same
This is one of my favorite songs to belt when I’m driving home from work, mid-day, along Lake Merced, as Randy Meisner hits a very high, “PLEAAAEAAASSSSEE,” and the rest of the Eagles urge you to Take It to the Limit *one more time*.
